Orwell's Diary

I just found out about the Orwell Diaries.

What a neat idea! They are publishing the diaries of George Orwell as if they were a blog, with each entry posted exactly 70 years after he wrote it in his diary. The first two entries are rather dull, but I'm sure this will be an interesting thing to read as the days go by.

Today's entry was fascinating (but how long did the rain last?):

"Very hot in the morning. In the afternoon sudden thunder-storm & very heavy rain. About 50 yards from the gate the road & pavement flooded a foot deep after only 1 1/2 hours rain.

Blackberries beginning to redden."

I know! It was great!

So many things to think about. Especially with the blackberries. Here, the season is coming to an end. They've gone from green to red to black and are starting to dry out. And his are only just turning red? What gives? Are they are different species? Is it an effect of the latitude? Is it 70 years of global warming?

What is your theory?
